How it works

The short version: I paper-trade a $20,000 account with a goal of 5% a week.* Every pick is published with its rules, wins and losses, at real market prices. No real money is at stake in the challenge, and nothing here is a promise of results.

What is the Nickel Millionaire challenge?

A nickel on every dollar, every week. The challenge starts with $20,000 of paper money and aims for 5% a week, measured on the total balance.* It is judged on June 30, 2027. Paper trades use real prices, but they are hypothetical, and hypothetical results are not the same as real-money results.

For scale: 5% a week held for 37 weeks turns $20K into about $121,000. Very few strategies keep that pace for months, so treat the goal line as a yardstick and not a forecast. A steady 1–3% a week would already be an excellent result. Every Friday the scorecard shows where the account really stands against the line.

How a stock gets picked

Twice a day the scan quotes every listed U.S. stock, drops the illiquid ones, runs full technical analysis on the best candidates, and ranks the top 120 on a score out of 100. The score adds up nine signals:

  • Volatility squeeze and 20-day breakout: is the stock coiled and starting to move?
  • Relative volume and accumulation (OBV): is real money showing up?
  • MACD momentum, trend stack and RSI zone: is the trend healthy and not overheated?
  • Strength vs SPY and daily range: is it beating the market, with enough room to move?

A name is Ready when it scores 70 or more, passes all four data-quality checks, has RSI under 75, and trades over $20 million a day. Building means 60 to 69, close but not there yet. Everything else is Watch.

How trades are managed

  • Shares: risk about 1–2% of the account per trade, stop 1.5 ATR under the entry, sell half at +2R, trail the rest on the 20-day average.
  • Calls: only when the option chain is clean (delta .35–.55, spread 10% or less, open interest 500+, 7–21 days to expiry). Out at −35%, half off at +50%, the rest at +100%, and out 3 days before expiry. If no contract qualifies, the board says so.
  • Locks: up 2% on the day or 5% on the week, no new entries. Down 3% on the day or 8% on the week, stop trading.

What you get

What I do not do

  • I never present paper results as real-money results.
  • I disclose when I own a ticker I post.
  • I show rule skips and losers. If I override my own rules, the scorecard says so.
